The Top 7 Reasons Why People Become Minimalists

Abundant Life with Less
quote Minimalism - Rachelle Crawford
It can feel like there is always so much work and stress at the end of the year. The school year is starting, your inbox is already flooded with emails, and everyone online is talking about “finishing the year with flying colours”.
At some point, you can even feel yourself left behind in a race that no one even invited you to participate in. However, there is one thing that you need to keep in mind: being successful at the end of the year does not mean that it should be done being exhausted and drained.
Forget about trying to get everything done before the end of the year. How about aiming for sustainable productivity? In this blog, you will see how to end the year perfectly without any complications.

Table of Contents:

  • Why is “finishing the year strong” the wrong mindset?
  • What is the “Life-Giving Test” and how do you use it?
  • Why should you start new habits in October or November instead of waiting for January 1st?

Why is “finishing the year strong” the wrong mindset?

This is because it forces you to work fast to complete everything before the year is up, rather than achieving sustainable development. Working too fast can make one tired and exhausted. Success is achieved through making wise decisions and staying cool, not through rushing.
Rather than asking yourself, “What have I got to get done?” ask, “How do I want to feel?” When you take your time and select only one goal, your performance improves, and so does your stress level. It is better to start with small good habits now, rather than being behind come January.

What is the “Life-Giving Test” and how do you use it?

A life-giving test to detect energy-draining relationships is very easy to do; when you leave someone, ask yourself, “Am I energized or drained?” The concept was brought to light by Dr. Henry Cloud. Keep those people who energize you and let go of those who don’t.
Points
Explanations
Feelings check
Check in with yourself after meeting that person: do I feel happy or tired now?
Look for patterns
Don’t just look at one bad day. See if it repeats itself many times later.
Make the lists
List number 1 of those people who make you happy and list number 2 of those who don’t.
Reduce time with bad ones
You can’t get rid of everyone. Cut time with bad ones.
Increase time with good ones
Spend more time with the people who make you happy and strong.

Why should you start new habits in October or November instead of waiting for January 1st?

Developing new habits in October and November through small, gradual habit-stacking techniques is more effective than waiting until January 1st. This way, you get to practice the behavior before January arrives, which allows you to have your habit well-established by then.
Don’t set yourself up to fail by putting pressure on yourself to wait for January 1st. If you miss that one day, there’s nothing you can do about it, and you may feel you’ve already fallen behind.
The holidays are busy times. If you’ve already started some sort of habit, it’s easier for that to survive than something brand new.
And finally, real change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time. The sooner you get the new habit started, the more normal it will be when everyone else is just getting started on their own.

Skip the Resolution, Start the Habit

The concept of creating a new habit on January 1st is exciting but most often results in failure. Too much in one day. You could make a mistake and think that’s the end of the process.
If you start in October or November, you can have a trial run and weeks to make mistakes and correct them without any worry. When the holidays come, you will have your habit set, and it will stay intact. So welcome the new year and end the present one smoothly, because you are ready.

Questions On: Building Habits Before January

Not at all. October and November provide you with additional time to get used to your habit before January. Your habit will have an opportunity to get used to itself, instead of feeling awkward and strange.
It is fine. This is normal. Any little failure that happens before the deadline is only practice, and not failure at all.
A small one. It is much easier to maintain a small habit rather than a large one, which will not be able to withstand the hustle of the festive season.
